Student registration

Registration

Students register differently for noncredit, credit and CEU courses/events offered by VCU Continuing and Professional Education. In addition to reviewing the information below, please be sure to note our payment and billing policies.

Note that all courses are subject to change. Please check this website prior to the first class meeting to verify course information.

Noncredit courses/events

Our noncredit courses are open to all learners. Noncredit registration takes place online via our online registration system or by using the Noncredit Registration Form.

You may pay online with a credit card. If you’d like to pay with a check, we can assist you with the registration process. Contact us at (804) 828-1322 or ocpe@vcu.edu.

Accommodations

Students requesting academic accommodations for noncredit courses must submit an accommodation request intake form to the program for review by the Student Accessibility and Educational Opportunity (SAEO) office.

As some academic accommodations may require time to arrange and implement, VCU Continuing and Professional Education requires a 30 day notice of need for academic accommodations with submission of the form prior to the start date of the program. Note: should an accommodation require more than 30 days to implement, as is the case of some services such as ALS or CART, the program will work to cycle the student into the next session accordingly.

The intake form should be completed by the student, even if they are under 18 years of age. While students are completing this registration process, VCU Continuing and Professional Education will attempt to provide reasonable interim academic accommodations until official documentation and approval from the University’s SAEO office has been received. VCU Fees and Services

When enrolling in noncredit courses and events, noncredit students do NOT pay mandatory fees that credit students are required to pay. Fees such as the University Fee, Library Fee, Technology Fee, Campus Learning Center Fee, Activity Fee and Health Fee are not part of noncredit pricing; therefore, services related to the campus offices supported by these fees are NOT available to noncredit students. For example, health services through University Student Health Services are not available to noncredit students. If you have questions or need further information, please contact VCU Continuing and Professional Education directly at (804) 828-1322 or ocpe@vcu.edu.

Credit courses

Registration is open to all qualifying students. Normal prerequisites indicated in course descriptions within VCU Bulletins apply to all courses. We encourage students working on degrees at other institutions or who have questions about the suitability of a course to meet a program or degree requirement to communicate with their advisers to determine the transferability of the VCU course to their program.

Courses numbered 500 and above are graduate level — only those students who hold an undergraduate degree are eligible to enroll. Current VCU undergraduates may enroll in 500‐level courses with approval of their advisers and consent of the programs offering the courses.

The location of a class does not restrict enrollment to those employed in the school division where the class is scheduled. Any restrictions will be noted in the course description.

For returning students

Students who enrolled the previous semester may register online at VCU eServices through the add/drop period of the course. If the course is restricted in any way, students must register through VCU Continuing and Professional Education.

For first-time VCU students or those returning after a long period of time

Anyone who does not qualify for online registration must register directly with VCU Continuing and Professional Education with the Credit Registration Form, which can be returned to us, with your signature, via email, fax or mail. To submit the form via email, please scan it with your written signature as a PDF.

You also must complete the Application for Virginia In-State Tuition and submit it with your registration.

For students new to VCU, complete the full Certificate of Eligibility form and submit with your registration.

CEU offerings

Individuals who attend an approved CEU (Continuing Education Unit) event at VCU and plan to receive CEUs through VCU Continuing and Professional Education, must follow registration and payment instructions given by each individual event coordinator. Registration and payment for events will either be through VCU Continuing and Professional Education's online registration system, or by submitting a CEU Event Registration Form and check payment at the event directly to the event coordinator. For more information on CEUs at VCU, please contact Ashley Fredericks at (804) 828-1322 or murphyae@vcu.edu, or visit the CEU website.

Digital badging

View our digital badging page for information on continuing education opportunities that lead to web-enabled, verifiable digital badges in areas such as Business, Education, Engineering, Health Professions, Health Sciences, Inclusive Excellence, Innovation, Social Work, and VCU Professional Development. To register to earn a badge included in a VCU Badge Collection, view the badge page and click on the link beneath the badge icon titled, "Additional Details," which will open a program page with information related to the badged course or event.
